Obama mourns Kobe Bryant and daughter Gianna

Former united states President Obama mourned the loss of basketball legend Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna on Sunday following reports the 2 were among those killed in a helicopter crash in California.

“Kobe was a legend on the court and just getting started in what would have been just as meaningful a second act,” Obama tweeted.

“To lose Gianna is even more heartbreaking to us as parents. Michelle and I send love and prayers to Vanessa and the entire Bryant family on an unthinkable day,” he continued.

Bryant visited the White House on multiple occasions during Obama’s time as president . While playing for the Lakers, Bryant and the Los Angeles team also gifted the president his own jersey during a visit in 2009.

since then, the 2 maintained a friendship, with Bryant paying another visit to meet with Obama within the White House in 2015 after he announced he would be retiring from the league.

That same year, Nike also released the Kobe X Elite “Commander,” a shoe that the brand said was inspired by the player’s relationship with Obama. The shoe displayed a presidential seal that was fused with Bryant’s mamba logo.
